rambling: social media "detox"

The title of this post might be the dumbest thing I have ever written. Not only am I not a fan of how loosely (and irresponsibly) the term "detox" is used, I am using to explain my current plan with the internet. That alone might be the ultimate sign that I need to step away.

Lately, I have found myself getting sucked into the world of social media and getting very little out of it. While there are really cool people out there that I can connect with and fun twitter chats and great hashtags to use - it just isn't cutting it for me. I've found myself more and more turning to social media when I am bored or uninspired and it never fulfills what every it is I am looking for. So I am turning it all off. For just two weeks, starting tonight, I am suspending my facebook, blocking myself from twitter, deleting all social media apps on my phone and giving myself a break from all things social media.

That will include this blog as well. I have some posts I've already written scheduled for the next two weeks but not a ton so you might still see some things I have written pop up in your feed now and then. But if you don't see me responding to comments, don't worry, I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks or so.

The goal is just to see if all this social media is creating a negative impact on my productivity. I know for some people, it helps boost productivity but lately for me it has been a time waster and a big one at that. So, if you notice I've gone quiet - it's not that I am tuning you out, it's just that I need a little break from social media and the internet to recharge, refocus, and really enjoy my summer.

xoxo,
kat

  1. Good for you. If you're not doing it out of love or having fun with it there is no point. I hope the "detox" (haha) gives you a new perspective on it all! :)

  2. I find that I have to take a break from social media and blogging from time to time. I have learned not to do them for fame or for meeting people, but for the joy of creating something. There is a true art in writing Twitter tweets for example.
